esterday I had this carlifter on my carwindow. Amazingly despite my speed it stayed stuck like glue with its little feet on the windowglass. (Ofcourse I helped it to a safe place).
Grasshoppers are possibly the most ancient living group of chewing herbivorous insects around 250 million years ago. Grasshoppers are jumping insects that are found in a variety of habitats. They occur in greatest numbers in lowland tropical forests, semiarid regions, and grasslands. They range in colour from green to olive or brown and may have yellow or red markings.Some years massive swarms are sweeping across South Asia, the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. This is a serious threat to crops, economies and livelihoods. On the other hand: edible grasshoppers could help alleviate hunger and malnutrition in Africa while providing farmers with a new source of income. I can imagine an invasion is scary, but just one in front of me is just sweet….
Not to forget the lovely sounds they make which remind me of sweet lazy holiday afternoons in a warm country. They produce it by rubbing one of their hind legs, which has rows of pegs on the inside, against the stiff outer edge of their wing. These sounds are produced in order to find a mate and protect their territory.
