Meet the leaf sheep, a tiny sea slug that looks like a cartoon sheep 🐑 This amazing creature is one of the select few in the world that can use algae for photosynthesis. It gets its energy from the sun, just like plants. 

They dwell near coral reefs, and can be found in large numbers on beds of a fuzzy, velvet-like algae, which they eat and lay their eggs on. Their egg masses create little spiral coils, much like tiny mazes, on the seafloor.

It is found in saltwater environments near Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines. And, like the mammal it gets its name from, it likes its greens.

They have two dark eyes and two rhinophores that emerge from the tops of their heads that look not unlike sheep’s ears or insect antennae,hence the common name “leaf sheep”. They range in size from 5 to 10 mm
